The Brainyacts Hexagon · Self Assessment v1.2

Where do you fit in forward deployed legal work

You do not need to want the title. These six components matter wherever legal judgment, technology, evidence, and adoption meet. Use the result to develop your skills, understand a team, shape a role, or prepare for an interview.

Throughout, "work" means any context where you have actually done the thing: a job, a clinic, an internship, coursework, or a personal project. Answer about what you have done and can do, not what you have read about or watched someone else do.

Honest lows are more useful to you than generous middles. Nothing here is scored against a passing grade.

Why these six

The work succeeds only when six forms of judgment meet: seeing the real workflow, locating legal exposure, translating expert knowledge, choosing the right technology, testing performance, and proving economic value. Each component produces an artifact that another person can inspect. Your result maps your contribution to the complete capability. It does not confer a job title or credential.

Methodology. This is an exploratory self assessment, not a validated psychometric instrument. For each capability, the evidence score combines the level you select with two reports of relevant experience on a five step scale. Confidence is reported separately so that experience and self belief remain visible rather than being collapsed into one number.

Both lines run 1 to 5 on the same scale. Solid is evidence: the level you picked, averaged with what you reported having done. Dashed is your own confidence rating.

This exploratory self assessment is version one. It measures a person's reported contribution to a broader forward deployed legal capability. It does not determine whether someone is a forward deployed legal engineer. It is a development and team conversation tool, not a validated employment selection instrument. Do not use it to rank candidates or make hiring decisions. The initial benchmark and instrument study are being conducted with Indiana University Maurer School of Law and Ice Miller LLP. Everything here is self reported and unverified. The level five claim on each axis is checkable against the artifact that component produces. Published subgroup comparisons will appear only where the response count supports a credible view.
